New Hope Feed Mill Bangladesh Limited located in Gazipur, under the overall supervision of a group of Chinese experts, has already brought hope to the livestock, poultry and fisheries sector by producing quality raw materials and feed using advanced modern technology by skilled and trained workforce.

It is making an important contribution to the economic growth of the country. Originally, New Hope Liuho was established in 1982 (listed in 1998), China’s largest listed company in agriculture and animal husbandry, has been investing and doing business in more than 20 countries around the world, including Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, Egypt.

He Quan Shui, president of New Hope’s Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka region, said in a private interview, New Hope has been investing in Bangladesh since 2006 and I started my career in Bangladesh since 2008.

At present we have four companies in Bangladesh which are running well and have made significant progress with the support of the government, embassies and local people. We would like to express our great gratitude for this.

Currently our feed production capacity in Bangladesh is 480,000 thousand metric tons per annum. Its quality has been widely recognized by the local people of Bangladesh.

In the meantime we have arranged continuous training for our local employees, sending staff to China to learn EMBA courses. We emphasize product quality through production process management.

So our products have received good and great response from the market and especially from the farmers. I believe the above result comes from our advanced management system.

He also said, another thing is our contribution to social responsibility. We have donated some medical equipment, masks and some medicines to the society during the last two years of epidemic. At the same time, I have given some help to some schools. Additionally we have worked hard to help some of our farmers.

He said, conducting this training with Asian Development Bank (ADB) and training local farmers together. Mentioning that 2 thousand 415 people have been trained, he said, our target is to train 7 thousand 200 people

He expressed optimism that through our services and product quality for farmers, we can develop or help the local feed industry. On the other hand we actively take social responsibility and contribute to the society.

He also said that he has donated medical devices, masks and medicines to hospitals and aided schools during the pandemic. He said, I have been in Bangladesh for fifteen years.

To be honest, Bangladesh is my second home and I am almost a Bangladeshi. Based on that I think the biggest problem that concerns us at present is insufficient investment in breeding in Bangladesh.

Many people’s chicken houses or breeding conditions are still backward compared to Indonesia and other developed countries. This backwardness will create difficulties in disease prevention and management. We need to improve this aspect.

According to him, like the 2023 bird flu, it will be very difficult for farmers to control it once it comes. However, chicken farms in China or other developed countries have a much stronger ability to control flu.

The current reproductive situation in Bangladesh has made it more difficult to control. We thought of many methods and sent dozens of vets from our four companies to the front line. However, we are yet to solve all the problems or risks posed by farmers.

This is the first problem. Second, we have faced some challenges recently. Due to the increase in interest rates in the US dollar, foreign exchange is relatively weak and we still have some difficulties in acquiring foreign currency and purchasing raw materials.

We at New Hope have a distinct advantage when it comes to purchasing raw materials in the international market. But without US dollars (individual raw materials) can only be bought locally and the price has to go up. So the cost will be higher.

And the third aspect is that there have been some losses in certain areas and individual products in the last two years and common people are struggling with their capital. There are some difficulties so this is a challenge for us.

He noted that New Hope does its best to help customers with financing and some funding. Help consumers raise chickens well with financial support so they can reduce losses.

On the other hand, he also said, since New Hope came to Bangladesh in 2006, we have been strictly following the laws and regulations of Bangladesh for our management and requirements including some taxes. We conduct audits in full compliance with international tax legislation.
